An article tickled us last week. Entitled “Revealed: shocking facts about the East Midlands’ knowledge of food” detailed research that suggests that East Midlands locals are somewhat lacking knowledge about food and nutrition. Although we’re not so sure about this ourselves, as The Orange Food Box Company tends to deal with customers who know and love their food, but one of the claims is that a quarter of parents who live in the East Midlands confessed they couldn’t explain to a child where a potato comes from!
Other ‘findings’, as detailed in the Derby Telegraph, included how two in ten thought a pork pie came from overseas, one in ten could not identify steak and kidney pie as British and half thought scampi was breaded prawns. The conclusion was that 46 per cent of adults across the East Midlands rate their food knowledge from average to very poor and two in five rate their lack of awareness as embarrassing.
Whatever your knowledge of food, you can be sure that The Orange Food Box Company knows exactly where our largely locally-sourced food comes from and we’d love to tell you all about how we turn locally-sourced potatoes into the most delicious, crispy-clean chips in our Derbyshire fish and chip van.
