A new scheme by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s Woodside Farm helps people to buy quality meat from local suppliers, according to the Derby Evening Telegraph. Just as The Orange Food Box Company does, buying meat from local suppliers is a good way of ensuring you know where it comes from.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is a registered charity that works to protect all wildlife in the county. It manages some 41 nature reserves throughout Derbyshire, advises local authorities and landowners on nature conservation issues and it runs a range of conservation and education projects too.
Woodside Farm’s scheme involves selling boxes of beef produced from Highland cattle who graze happily on the grassland of the nature reserve. Being from a native breed means they produce tender meat with a good covering of fat. The cows are reared slowly, being allowed to grow naturally with no artificial feeds and their grazing helps to manage the local nature reserves. The farm produces a 4kg taster beef boxes, a 10kg family box and a larger 20kg beef-lovers box.
The Orange Food Box Company very much appreciates the value of locally-sourced ingredients and the beef that goes into our flame-grilled beef burgers is also Derbyshire-sourced. We hope the Woodside Farm scheme goes well and more farms take note of their practices.
