A Derbyshire food brand that has one foot in the High Peak and one foot in West Sweden has recently been named one of Britain’s Top 50 Foods in this year’s Great Taste Awards. Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, New Mills-based Get Funghi’s dried wild Porcini mushrooms made their mark and the company was awarded a three-star rating. Not strictly Derbyshire produce, as the company’s wild mushrooms are hand-picked in the forests of West Sweden and dried the same day to ensure maximum flavour conservation. The company then distribute their Porcini to delis and restaurants across Derbyshire.
It’s not only food that Derbyshire has a name for though – it’s drink is just as famous and well known Derbyshire beer brand, Thornbridge Brewery, which makes among other drinks the strong, ‘hoppy’ Jaipur, will be representing Derbyshire at this year’s Liverpool Craft Beer Expo.
